Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.1.4) Gecko/20091016 Firefox/3.5.4
Build Identifier: 2.0.0.23 (20090812)
When you click on the "Get Messages" icon, Thunderbird should automatically poll ALL mail servers you've designated for new mail. This does NOT work - clicking on the icon produces nothing. You must go into the "dropdown menu" and select "get all new messages" for this to happen.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. CLICK ON GET MESSAGES ICON
Actual Results:
2. NOTHING
Expected Results:
ALL MAIL SERVERS SHOULD HAVE BEEN POLLED FOR NEW EMAIL. I HAVE FOLLOWED UP BY DROPPING DOWN THE GET MAIL MENU AND SELECTING "GET ALL NEW MESSAGES" AND THIS DID FIND NEW MAIL.
IT'S NOT A MAJOR PROBLEM BUT HAVING IT DO WHAT IT SHOULD DO DOES SAVE SOME TIME AND FRUSTRATION.

For rertieve "all messages" for all accounts you should click on item dropdown menu.
Icon on toolbar says "get email" because if you click it you can retrieve the messages of selected account only.
If this action does nothing can you try in safe-mode, please?

The button only retrieves the mail from the currently selected account, not from all accounts together (which can be down in the drop down menu). That's because not everyone wants to poll all servers every time.
You already have the functionality in TBird to have it poll just the servers you want to poll by dropping down the menu and selecting the server. Why not allow users to poll ALL servers as an option to this - by clicking on the Get Mail button, you automatically poll all servers. Why should you even have to think about which server is being polled? In fact, I'm guessing now, but the only way to "select" a server to poll using this icon is by making it your default account, and then when you click the icon, it polls only the default... correct?
At the very least, "Get Mail" is misleading the way the icon is implemented! It should be called the "Poll your default mail account" instead!

No Frank: it polls account that is current selectec on folders pane treeview.
It seems to me that request for have a button "get all messages" for all account it is already existing on bugzilla.

Frank I think that your issue is a dupe of bug #301228. You agree?
Lastly, when the icon is clicked, nothing really happens - even the status bar is silent. This is why I decided to see if it was really working - there have been several instances when I'd click the icon and nothing happened; so, I then dropped down the menu and polled all servers - AND FOUND NEW MAIL! So, it seems to me that the icon isn't even doing what it was originally designed for.
Yes, bug #301228 does seem to address the same problem - funny - that bug never popped up when I tried to do a search for existing bug reports.
The "account that is selected in the folders pane treeview" is the one that is polled... I don't see any individual email accounts identified in this view... It's just a list of folders!?

Then I close this as dupe.

Ops, I'm sorry Frank you are right: I forgot to mentioning "only when you are in All Folders view" ;-)

Ciao Frank.
Apart from my suggestion (wrong or not isn't important), however, you agree that the problem you described is dupe of bug #301228?
If is yes, please, close yourself this as RESOLVED WORKFORME.
