Allow KDE filepicker to be used in Gtk2 widget.
Google Chrome is able to use KDE file dialog on KDE and not Firefox, why ?
+1 for this bug
Summary: allow KDE filepicker to be used in Gtk2 widget → allow KDE filepicker to be used in Gtk widget
Priority: -- → P5
Whiteboard: tpi:+

Seems that the latest release of KDE has an integration https://www.kde.org/announcements/plasma-5.15.0.php because of Firefox 64

Install the packages suggested (in my case debian) and run firefoxc with GTK_USE_PORTAL=1 ~/firefox/firefox seems that fix the issue :-)

@Martin: Is this the canonical bug to "enable and enable kde-native file chooser"? Is this still on the backlog to be implemented someday?

@Daniele: The workaround in Comment #4 doesn't seem to work.

Well to me is working and I am using on linux the Firefox nightly build by Mozilla so you need to give more information about your environment.

Attached file Firefox info
Operating System: Arch Linux KDE Plasma Version: 5.23.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.90.0 Qt Version: 5.15.2 Kernel Version: 5.16.2-zen1-1-zen (64-bit) Graphics Platform: Wayland Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel® UHD Graphics 620 The GTK chooser shows, just with more GNOME-ish buttons, icons, colors.

I am in the same situation but I am using X11 and on debian sid.
Did you tried with Firefox for linux compiled by Mozilla maybe it's the archlinux build?

Nope, it doesn't work with the official build. Neither with prepending, nor with export.
What do you mean by "In the same situation"?

So probably it is the KDE that doesn't have that integration working you need to check in the archlinux community what is missing.
As example if the issue there is also in thunderbird is clearly a KDE issue.
I don't know if it is required a package as example.

So KDE devs said widget.use-xdg-desktop-portal needs to be enabled in addition to the environment variable and is a recent new requirement. That said, it works only with this preference and seems there's no need for the env. variable.

I wonder if we should enable that in KDE by default.

Any potential drawback of doing that?

It would be nice!
