Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.5) Gecko/20091121 Lightning/1.0pre Thunderbird/3.0
In previous versions of Lightning you could enter a specific date (such as 11/20/2011) on the left-hand side, between the current month's calender and the list of your calendars. This field no longer exists in 1.0 and I can't seem to find another way to jump ahead to a specific date.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Launch TB 3
2. Click the calendar icon on the left side
Actual Results:
The field is missing
Expected Results:
You see the jump to specific date field as noted in the description

The datepicker has been removed on purpose with Bug 467909.

Ah, "datepicker", I tried searching but didn't find it. That said, I really think that we need this functionality. I see in the trail of bugs attached to those issues that one possibility was to add it via Sunbird's menuitem, but that was dropped. Even if it was available via a right-click context menu or something, it's functionality that I find very handy.
I think is has not been dropped intentionally. Bug 456385 comment 3 states:
...it should be evaluated if Sunbird´s menuitem Go/Date that raises the date dialog should not be integrated to a menu of Lightning as a substitution for the removed datepicker beneath the minimonth in the calendar view.
As far as I can tell no one actually did evaluate it.
I too like this functionality back in some way.

Now with the demise of Sunbird I'm forced to use Lightning and I really miss being able to go directly to a date. Why can't this be in Lightning?
(actually I don't really understand why Sunbird needs to be jammed into Thunderbird either, but that's another kettle of sea creatures)

I agree with the other commenters that the "Go to Date" feature is an important functionality. When moving from Sunbird to Lightning, I couldn't believe it was discarded until I found the related bugs here.
So: Is the "Go to Date" functionality now completeley discarded? I don't need it at a prominent UI position, but at least via a menu entry, so that one can easily navigate to some date via keyboard. Has anyone already tried to patch this functionality into Lightning on its own?

It seems no. Perhaps you should try to produce a patch or an extension. If it is working correctly, perhaps it will get adopted. I will test it.
