I'm using IMAP to access my account and my mailbox has around 15000 emails for a few GB of data. 
Problem is that the INBOX file is now around 80 Go which doesn't seem logical based on the amount of emails I've got.

Can you right click in the inbox, select properties and select rebuild index ?

Did you look into you profile folder to figure out which files where big ?

Thanks Ludovic. Just tried these:
- Rebuild index : Took a while but it did it. BTW the % of progress wasn't accurate (finding only 9595 on the 14243, thus going far above the 100% of completion) / close TB / reopen => no change in INBOX file size.

- My profile folder :
* inbox.msf : 8Mo (was 0 when I launched the indexing process)
* INBOX file : 84 Go
* inbox.sbd
** 25 files for my directories on the IMAP server, from a few KB to 350 MB for the biggest one (Sent). Total volume = 1.2 Go

I don't know if this might help but strange behavior... when I restarted TB after the re-indexing was finished, it started again to index everything (stating 13 926 emails to index this time)

How big is your global-messages-db.sqlite file ?

2009/09/15 build is sufficiently old. Bug 487992 is fixed by Tb3.0rc1.
Can you see bigger Inbox file than total mail data size after rebuild-index with newest nightly build?
