Have tried setting Received as a custom header in the search dialog? That works for me for incoming messages. For filters after-the-fact (Run Now or Manual) there are issues (bug 184490) but there is a workaround available (add "received" to your preference "mailnews.customDBHeaders". You'll need to rebuild any existing folder if you want this then to work on existing messages, as that preference only affects new or reindexed messages.) Making this workaround happen by default is bug 363238. I would be tempted to dup this bug to bug 184490, since the STR mentions "search" rather than "filter".
reporter emila address is dead so may as well dupe
