User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.5) Gecko/20091105 Fedora/3.5.5-1.fc11 Firefox/3.5.5 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.5) Gecko/20091130 Lightning/1.0b1pre Thunderbird/3.0 When a new email is received, and the new mail indicator pops up, if you click on the new mail indicator biff (bottom right popup), Thunderbird is properly brought to the forefront with the email properly shown in the thunderbird message pane. However, I have filters that automatically move incoming mail into folders. If the incoming message was filtered out of the Inbox, when I click on the biff, the Inbox is still shown as selected in the folder pane. The thread pane correctly shows the messages in the folder that the message was moved into, and the message pane correctly shows the message; however, the folder pane shows the INBOX as still selected. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Set filter to move messages out of INBOX on receipt 2.Wait for incoming message biff to appear 3.Click on biff Actual Results: Thunderbird brought to forefront. Message pane shows incoming message (correct). Thread pane correctly shows messages in the folder that the message has been moved to (not the INBOX) (correct). Folder pane shows INBOX as selected (incorrect). Expected Results: Message pane, folder pane and thread pane all show the correct location of the email I clicked
Does it happen in safe-mode (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode) ?
Below testing done in Safe Mode: hmm.. my 'reproducible: Always' selection may have been a bit optimistic (or is that pessimistic??) - However, it is reproducible always - just with different behaviours depending on what folder view you have up when the biff appears (Smart Folders, Unread Folders, All Folders). In some cases, the view switches to Smart Folders with the correct folder selected, in other cases it switches to Smart Folders with no folder selected, in still other cases it doesn't switch views at all and no folder is shown as selected. I don't really like my view changing without me specifically initiating it (perhaps that is a related but separate bug?); however, what is the expected behaviour from the dev's opinion? I would have thought that: a) The Folder View would not change from whatever it was and b) The folder of the email clicked would be shown as selected
(In reply to comment #2) > I would have thought that: > a) The Folder View would not change from whatever it was and > b) The folder of the email clicked would be shown as selected Not all folders are visible in all views, so I don't see how you can have both of these.
Ah - good point. Let me revise... I would expect: a) The Folder View would not change from whatever it was and b) The folder of the email clicked (if available) would be shown as selected else no folder shown as selected ;-) I should note that when I say the "incorrect folder is shown as selected" it is highlighted in grey (not blue) which may be an indication that it isn't _really_ selected?? Again, perhaps this is just a misunderstanding of desired behaviour on my part; however, it seems counter-intuitive to me to either have my view suddenly changed or having an incorrect folder shown as selected. If this is by design, feel free to mark it WONTFIX or RESOLVED.
Sorry - one more follow up regarding the above comment - the last instance of this showed the "incorrectly selected folder" highlighted in blue (not grey as described above) - which should indicate an active selection. Should be noted, I am no longer running in Safe-mode. It seems I see different behaviours but haven't quite nailed down what is causing the discrepancies.
