Should go between 'most shared' and category module. List the top ten tags in the system along with a link that says "view top tags" that goes to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/top-tags

Marking for 5.8, would like to have this by the end of the quarter- top tags is not discoverable enough. Adding chowse to design for 5.8 and implement in 5.9

Can we consider replacing the top shared add-ons box with this? I don't think we should clutter up the homepage any more.

That sounds like a prime candidate for an A-B test- to see if people use that box at all. Let's aim for designing this in 5.8 and I'll log another bug for 5.8 to add tracking codes to the shared add-ons box. I'm fine with replacing stuff, but we need to make sure we're replacing the right thing.

I suggest it for replacement not because people don't use it, but because the data is totally unreliable and suspicious, it's easily gameable, and it's inaccurate for non-Firefox apps. I think top tags would be way more useful.

Agree on the suspicious data- but I don't think we know whether or not people use it, which affects our decisions in the future on having a feature like this on the front page and what efforts we should put into fixing the gaming. If no one uses it, let's kill it and not try it again. If people use it, let's put some thought into why and know if top tags are better or worse.
So the plan is to replace this but I want to know what the performance is of that box.

A few different treatments of the Top Tags module. I'm partial to 2 (for detail) and 6 (for space), but would like to hear other's thoughts.

I like #2. It presents the info clearly, and looks much better than then floating numbers in #1. Tag clouds are so web 2.0.

I like 2 as well, the lines in 3 don't match any of the other modules and I think would stand out in situ.

I like #6 as it provides all information necessary without looking crowded.
Also, we use a blue tag(icons) for user submitted tags and green tags for those submitted by developers which is not represented in the other options for top tags module.

Since there are no clear ends to the graphs in #2 I don't find them particularly useful other than to say 1 > 2, etc. But maybe that's all we need. Anyway, we need a decision here - is there anymore feedback?

@Wil: You're right, the bars are there just to show how the top tags compare to each other. Not the most useful thing in the world, but is clearer than the number in isolation and makes better use of the empty space on the right.
That said, I think I have to go with #6. I'm not the biggest fan of tag clouds, but I think their compactness gives them the edge in this case, especially if we want to show more than 5 tags. Mock attached for comparison.

Alright, #6 it is. -> 5.9 for implementation. Thanks Chris.
Nick: If we don't replace the front page in 5.9 do you want this done in remora and zamboni?

If it's not a huge amount of extra work, yes. There are tons of tags in the system that no one knows about.

A few tweaks, if it's not too late to get them in:
* Use the standard link-hover styling, not blue bg/white text.
* Remove the padding around the links, add a 8px right margin (or left margin for RTL).
* Give the tag cloud a line-height of 24px (3.07em).
* Make tags vertical-align: baseline.
* Make the border over the 'More' block dotted, not dashed.
(Just for the #tagbox, not the Top Tags page.)
