User-Agent: Opera/9.80 (Windows NT 5.1; U; pl) Presto/2.2.15 Version/10.10 Build Identifier: TB 3 All my messages in Inbox folder disappeared completely. I think that there are in Inbox file in account folder, bacause the size of the folder is sth around 800 MB. I have checked these files with text ediotor and hex editor and it seems that there are full of zeros. I don't have KAV. I have tried to delete msf already, compact folders (Inbox especially), but without any positive results. Reproducible: Couldn't Reproduce Steps to Reproduce: 1.Upgrad TB to v3. 2.Run TB 3.Close and run TB again Actual Results: Inbox files in accounts folders are full of zeros, although the size of these files are big enough(800MB, 500MB). Expected Results: Keep messages.
Anything in Tools -> error console ? Could you provide us with a screenshot ? Do you have the same issue in -safe-mode (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode) ?
No, there are no errors in the console. Instead of screenshot, I have prepared video: http://www.vimeo.com/8316978 In Safe Mode the problem still exists.

Size displayed at where? Size displayed at Tb's window? File size displayed by file syste(Windows Explorer)? > Steps to Reproduce: > 1.Upgrad TB to v3. If file-size by Windows Explorer=4GB-1, it may be produced by Tb2 due to bug 494706.
What is your retention policy? ...WinHex is an exadecimal editor: do you have open mail file as hex file?
@WADA: size displayed in Windows Explorer(just like I showed on video). Moreover WinHex shows exactly the same size. One more thing: I have no (lost?) emails from the time before upgrade in Inbox in TB. @(:Aureliano Buendía): retention policy? What do you mean? Backup? Yes, I have opened mail file as hex file to see the content of the file. And the file is fulfilled with zeros.
Using context menu on your folder that is affect of the issue and select "properties...". See what says tab "retention policy". If result that retention policy is set to "use my account setting", go to account settings and see what is specified on "Disk space" section of your account (or local folders, it depends of your case. * If you use the previous file with a text editor, what you see? * do you use "leave messages on the server until" (see account settings)... option?
(In reply to comment #5) > @WADA: size displayed in Windows Explorer(just like I showed on video). As written in bug 482486(a dup of bug 494706) and bug 494706, if "open write" and "seek to 800MB and write a 0x00" is executed, MS Win generates "sparse file(unritten part is padded with 0x00). > One more thing: I have no (lost?) emails from the time before upgrade in Inbox in TB. Similar issue to bug 534382? If multiple serverX have same hostname/userName/type as serverA for "Local Folders", Tb2 wrote mail data in Inbox under folder for "Local Folders" account(...\Local Folders\Inbox). If such wrong/duplicated entries exist, Tb3 wrongly uses a serverX for "Smart Folders". It may cause problem like bug 534382, mails are moved to ...\Local Folders-1\Inbox. In this case, mails to some mail-addresses won't appear ...\Local Folders\Inbox any more. Keep backup of profile directory, and check all account/server settings in your prefs.js.
@(:Aureliano Buendía): 1.Retention policy->use my account setting 2.Account settings->[My account folder]->Disk space->unchecked 3.Account settings->Local->"Don't delete any messages" When I open Inbox file from "Local folders" directory, in text editor(or hex editor) I am able to see my mails(of course in "raw" format, with jeaders etc.) Yes, I use this option: "leave messages on the server until" intentionally. I know that because of this option I am able to get back my lost mail by downloading them again...but the problem is, that in daily usage of TB I think I would not notice similar problem. So mayby after a few days someone would tell that he/she sent my a email and I didn't response... This sounds disturbingly for my that "lost" emails.
@WADA: >As written in bug 482486(a dup of bug 494706) and bug 494706, if "open write" >and "seek to 800MB and write a 0x00" is executed, MS Win generates "sparse >file(unritten part is padded with 0x00). So what should I do? Should I delete Inbox file? >Keep backup of profile directory, and check all account/server settings in your >prefs.js. Setting in my prefs.js file are ok - settings refer to correct, existing folders.
(In reply to comment #9) > So what should I do? Should I delete Inbox file? As your prefs.js setting is healthy and correctly points existing folders, it sound that problem exist in Inbox file only. Keep back up of the Inbox & Inbox/msg file for futuare analysis and recovery of old data, delete Inbox file, re-create Inbox file(null file, no data in it, file size=0), and restart Tb. Are mails downloaded in newly created Inbox file? After that, copy back up of Inbox/Inbox.msf to Inbox-2/Inbox-2.msf and restart Tb, show "Order Received" column(offset in Inbox-2 file), and execute rebuild-index. Is old mail seen in Inbox-2? What value is seen in "Order Received" column?
After re-creating Inbox file, new mails are downloaded. After renameing and coping back Inbox/Inbox.msf, I am still not able to see mails before update...
I have been using Thunderbird since its inception and up to now it has been working just fine. My systems runs under Windows Vista Home Premium with SP 2 installed I have a Toshiba laptop with Intel Core 2 duo CPU with 3 GB of RAM I have currently installed Thunderbird Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.1.5) Gecko/20091204 Thunderbird/3.0 Thunderbird starts up OK but it goes into what appears to be a dormant state and no new messages are retrieved, after about 2 minutes the message below appears “The folder Inbox is full, and can't hold any more messages. To make room for more messages, delete any old or unwanted mail and compact the folder.” In order to correct this problem I started by deleting a substantial number of e-mail messages from the inbox and compacted the folders, no change. I then deleted Thunderbird from the systems and re-installed, no change. I emptied the entire inbox, no change. Deleted and re-installed Thunderbird, no change. In summary: irrespective of what I have done up to now with the application the result is always the same. Since Thunderbird sees the inbox folder full no new messages are allowed to enter the inbox. I can send e-mail messages from Thunderbird and the mail start web page loads OK
do you have *any* AV software?
George or me?
Yes, for AV I have Panda Sfw. 2.00.00
George, your issue is likely the AV software. If you are unable to resolve the issue, suggest you check the support site http://www.mozillamessaging.com/support

If not and wada, Aureliano, don't have suggestions, perhaps your remaining issue should be pursued in the support site http://getsatisfaction.com/mozilla_messaging/
David ideas ?
Virus checker was my suspicion.
(In reply to comment #17) > prawdomowca is this resolved? If not and wada, Aureliano, don't have > suggestions, perhaps your remaining issue should be pursued in the support site > http://getsatisfaction.com/mozilla_messaging/ Unfortunately not. I had to redownload all my mails. I keep copies on server hopefully. I am not going to repeat this situation because I want to work finally:).
prawdomowca, it really sounds like AV or some other program trashing your folders. please see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Antivirus_software#Keeping_your_antivirus_software_from_deleting_your_Inbox with rerard to comment 11, you would need to have deleted popstate.dt to get your pop messages to redownload > I am not going to repeat this situation I don't know what that means in relation to your initial situation - is there something you are doing now that successfully avoids losing the inbox?
Summary: Inbox files are full of zeros.Messages disappeared in Inbox[No KAV,I've deleted msf already] → Pop Inbox files are full of zeros.Messages disappeared in Inbox[No KAV,I've deleted msf already]

(In reply to comment #21) > > > I am not going to repeat this situation > > I don't know what that means in relation to your initial situation - is there > something you are doing now that successfully avoids losing the inbox? Just like I wrote in description: Steps to Reproduce: 1.Upgrad TB to v3. 2.Run TB 3.Close and run TB again Actual Results: Inbox files in accounts folders are full of zeros, although the size of these files are big enough(800MB, 500MB). So this is the reason, why I am not able to repeat this situation. It happened after upgrade TB to v3. If I liked to reproduce this situation, I would have to downgrade to TB v2, what I think, is not a good idea. Additionally I don't want to recover my mails once again:P, if bug occures again. > prawdomowca, it really sounds like AV or some other program trashing your > folders. please see > http://kb.mozillazine.org/Antivirus_software#Keeping_your_antivirus_software_from_deleting_your_Inbox > > with rerard to comment 11, you would need to have deleted popstate.dt to get > your pop messages to redownload Like as I mentioned before, it happened once after upgrade and now everything works.
prawdomowca, thanks for the feedback. from comment 14 - what AV software were using at the time?
(In reply to comment #23) > prawdomowca, thanks for the feedback. from comment 14 - what AV software were > using at the time? Honestly, I do not remember whether I had any AV soft when I was upgrading TB. I do not use AV regularly (I mean that I don't install AV, not turn off AV). When I need any AV to scan sth, I use trial version of ESET NOD32.
flip of the coin ... invalid or incomplete... incomplete wins - we don't know if AV was involved and there's no prospects of reproducing
