I have two mail accounts configured and the notification for the number of new e-mails received is twice the actual number.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Add two email accounts in thunderbird.
2. Receive messages
Actual Results:  
You will find the notification is twice the actual number of the sum of new emails in both accounts.

Expected Results:  
The notification should report the sum of new emails in all inbox mail accounts.

This could be 516477 that is fixed. Are you using the smart folder  view ?

Yes, I am using the smart folder view. I am curious how come it is fixed and the problem is showing in Thunderbird 3.0 and when checking for updates the software reports none?

because the version where it's fixed is not released yet give a try to http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/nightly/latest-comm-1.9.1/ and let me know if it's fixed there ...
