I go and look at the sent items and there is just a clear box and no image. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Write New E-mail 2.Insert, image 3.Send 4.View the e-mail you sent in sent items or send the e-mail to a different address and view it. Actual Results: Images doesn't get displayed Expected Results: Display the images for the person getting the e-mail.
To actually include the image with the message, you must check the box "Attach this image to the message" This is in the image properties dialog box.

I have a quite similar issue. I'm sending HTML newsletters that embed images with absolute URLs, for example <img src="http://mydomain.com/myimage.jpg" /> This worked all right with Thunderbird up to the latest 2.x: I would use "insert HTML" and it would embed those images automatically as an attached file. Starting with 3.x it tries to embed the image, but for some reason seems to "forget" to put the embedded image as an attachment. So the output mail uses neither the absolute URL image (which would display correctly...) nor the attachement (which is not here). If I click on my image and uncheck the "Attach this image to the message" box, it then works all right. But still, what a regression!

But still, what a regression! I have tested this thoroughly In Tb3.1 and I am unable to reproduce. One thing I noticed is that / at the end of your image tag (seems to be out of place, could cause an error 404 not found) Here is an example of a good tag: <img alt="" src="http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/37/tb150pw.jpg">
can you reproduce this using a current version of thunderbird? if you are unable to reproduce, please close by setting stats to resolved, and resolution to WORKSFORME or another appropriate setting. If you are able to reproduce, add new details, and a testcase if one does not already exist in the bug report.
