Bug 537227 has the detailed instructions, please be sure to check it out. Text to translate: ====================== Your online security is Firefox's top priority. Firefox is free, and won't take over your computer or compromise your privacy. ====================== Please provide a translation into German in a comment to this bug by Wednesday, January 13th, 2010. There is a hard limit of 140 characters for the translation. Please let us know if you think you have troubles making it within this limit. Thanks!
140 characters seems too short. First guess with 151 characters: Ihre Sicherheit im Netz hat für Firefox höchste Priorität. Firefox ist kostenlos, manipuliert nicht Ihren PC und verletzt auch nicht Ihre Privatsphäre.
My variant still is 149 characters: Ihre Sicherheit im Internet steht für Firefox an erster Stelle. Firefox ist kostenlos, lässt Ihren PC unbeschadet und schützt Ihre Privatsphäre. Perhaps we find some variation that can make it slightly shorter, but it's really hard.
Ihre Sicherheit hat oberste Priorität für Firefox. Firefox ist kostenlos, übernimmt nicht Ihren Computer und schützt Ihre Privatsphäre. But I'm not happy with "won't take over your computer". That makes not much sense for me and may not make any sense for users. I raised the question in the blocking bug.
let's keep that bug open until we have a translation that you feel has the best impact and meaning then.
(In reply to comment #3) > Ihre Sicherheit hat oberste Priorität für Firefox. Firefox ist kostenlos, > übernimmt nicht Ihren Computer und schützt Ihre Privatsphäre. Why "übernimmt nicht Ihren Computer" and not "übernimmt Ihren Comuter nicht" or, like in my version, "lässt Ihren Computer unbeschadet"? You version sounds somewhat strange to my... Also, I think "steht an erster/oberster Stelle" sounds more German than "hat oberste Priorität"...
well, it's usually better to use the negation as early as possible as to not build up a wrong expectation. Anyway, my version is probably not better than yours, just different, but it's the version I had discussed with our website-L10n guy Michael. And you are right, "hat oberste Priorität" should be "hat höchste Priorität".
Hi, have you decided on the final string?
Yes, it is: Ihre Sicherheit hat höchste Priorität für Firefox. Firefox ist kostenlos, übernimmt nicht Ihren Computer und schützt Ihre Privatsphäre.
thanks

Hi everyone, There were interesting comments about your translation in this blog post: http://blog.johnath.com/2010/01/29/mozillas-eu-browser-choice-submission/comment-page-1/#comment-215019 You might consider taking a look and if you think this feedback is valid, feel free to reopen. Seth
Feedback is always welcome, but in this case the commenter obviously did not realize that the en-GB text was not the text to localize for the German version. I agree that the notion of Firefox not taking over your computer is strange, but apparently in tests german users preferred that string. And I can't find any grammar mistakes in those two sentences.
Thanks, Kadir. We greatly appreciate you acknowledging the feedback and looking at this again.
