Firefox v3.5.6, all my Bookmarks look like (example) "Adobe Flash Player.url"
How can I get rid of the ".url" in the Bookmarks list without having to edit each Bookmark :?:
In other words, set an option NOT to use the ".url" extension in Bookmark lists.
Example of an imported entry (properties):
- Name: A1c-Average Blood Glucose Conversion.url
- Location: http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/A1Ccalc.php
Firefox SHOULD be able to strip the .url from the Name field automatically.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Import of IE8 Bookmarks several times
2. Manually adding a bookmark from within Firefox
3.
Actual Results:
1 - Export IE8 Favorites to Bookmarks.html
2 - Open Firefox in Safe Mode and reset Bookmarks to default
3 - Import Bookmarks.html
Expected Results:
Using above example, the imported Bookmark....
Example of an imported entry SHOULD BE (properties):
- Name: A1c-Average Blood Glucose Conversion
- Location: http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/A1Ccalc.php
NO .url extension on Name

Haven't been able to reproduce this using the URL you provided. Can you try starting in Safe Mode to see if the same thing happens - http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode?

If you look at the "Steps to Reproduce" you should see that IS what I did.
UNLESS you meat Import in the Safe Mode.
Note, you are not doing what causes the problem. Import of IE8 Favorites that have been Exported (in IE8) to a HTML file.
Then, in Firefox (normal mode), Imported from the HTML file.
This does NOT occur if you add a bookmark within Firefox.

Wonder if these are files like something.URL.url, otherwise with bug 829995 we would have not even imported them

FIX: What I do now is edit (with my HTML Editor) my exported IEBookmarks.htm and find-replace ".url" with nothing, then import to Firefox. No "url" in bookmarks.
