The Mac N6 Installer 2000-09-20-04 failed to install on a drive named "N6 9/20". I created a 70MB disk image named "N6 9/20.img" and mounted the image as "N6 9/ 20". I then copied the N6 Installer onto this drive and ran the installer from there. I selected as the location for the install the root of this drive. The install proceeded for quite a while when it finally displayed a dialog that said: Please insert the disk "N6". The only button was cancel and after clicking cancel the installer crashed. stdlog to be attached.

This looks like the second manifestation of memory corruption in the engine. This time only earlier. The attached log doesn't have the stack that we got when trying to reproduce this on Paul's machine, but it terminated in an attempt to malloc called from PR_Malloc called from ScheduleForInstall.

Per bug 71736, installed on se's machine 10 times without a single crash. Installed each of the following builds twice (once full, once recommended): 1> 2001042604 2> 2001041908 3> 2001041204 4> 2001040504 5> 2001032804 Removing nsbeta1+ keyword since we can't repro this (se mentioned she hasn't seen this in a while either). Leaving bug open since we didn't actually fix anything. (Suspect an XPInstall engine checkin -- maybe the recent js changes -- fixed this.) Please renominate if this is seen again or someone currently has a consistently reproducible case or a machine is manifesting this problem frequently.
Keywords: nsbeta1+

Samir: did you test installing on a drive with a slash in the name, as per the original bug description?

Simon, Nope I was testing per se's bug 71736. Anyways, I put a slash in my Mac OS 8.6/G3 box's hard drive name and did not crash with the following builds: 1> 2001032804 2> 2001040504 3> 2001041204 4> 2001041908 5> 2001042704 se, Can you please put a slash in your G3 box's hard drive name and test recent builds (say 5 - 10) to repro this crash? Thanks.
