Build Identifier: 3.0.1

No longer able to edit emails in the text edit window. All I get is the arrow cursor, not the text cursor. This occurs with new mail, reply, and forward.

This bug started suddenly about an hour ago. Tried rebooting Thunderbird, then computer. Did not fix problem.

Had to download 2.0.0.18 to resume woring with email again.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Load and run
2.
3.
Actual Results:
Problem did not exist, then started suddenly. Once problem manifested itself, it would not go away despite reboots of Thunderbird or OS/

Expected Results:
Nothing

I own a Power PC Mac, running the latest update of OS X4. My wife owns a PC running Vista. Interestingly, her computer met with this same bug yesterday. Mine today. doesn't seem like a coincidence, though it's interesting it happened one day apart/
I can edit. could you start thunderbird 3.0.1 in -safe-mode (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode) and see if your issue is solved ?

If the issue isn't solved can you look into Tools -> Error console and paste the errors that should be in it ?

----------------
Avertissement : « , » ou « { » attendu, mais « * » trouvé. Jeu de règles ignoré suite à un mauvais sélecteur.
Fichier Source : about:blank

about:blank gives the following information:
--------------------------------------------
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"><html><head><title></title></head><body></body></html>

It is reproducible at will with the mail in question.

Best regards,
Roger
I can reproduce at will the bug 541162 using the attached mail under Thunderbird 3.0 or 3.1. I use KDE 4.5, Fedora 13.
(In reply to comment #4)
Starting in Safe mode doesn't solve the problem.
When I read the mail (the one I previously attached in comment 4) I get the following 2 messages in the error console when running in safe mode:

Message #1:

Warning: Expected ',' or '{' but found '*'. Ruleset ignored due to bad selector.
Source File: mailbox:///home/Roger/.thunderbird/13djbekr.default/Mail/pop3.thodenius.com/Inbox?number=1667176989
Line: 10

Message #2:

Security Error: Content at mailbox:///home/Roger/.thunderbird/13djbekr.default/Mail/pop3.thodenius.com/Inbox?number=1667176989 may not load or link to file:///.

When I the try to reply to it I get the blank message text field into which I can't write text and I see the following 2 additional messages in the error console:

Message 3:

Security Error: Content at about:blank may not load or link to file:///.

Message 4:

Warning: Expected ',' or '{' but found '*'. Ruleset ignored due to bad selector.
Source File: about:blank
Line: 1

Please let me know if there is anything further I can do to help you resolving this problem?
Best regards,
Roger.
I have now found a way of further refining when it doesn't work:

When I display the message body text as ORIGINAL HTML I can't edit text into the response when I reply to it.

However, if I display in SIMPLE HTML or TEXT ONLY I can edit into the message when replying.

Also, once the error has occurred in ORIGINAL HTML mode I have to restart Thunderbird to be able to respond&edit in SIMPLE HTML or TEXT ONLY mode.

I hope this helps.

It sounds bug 525359. See also bugs dup'ed to bug 525359.
Check HTML source of the mail. Is contenteditable=yes used in HTML?
In response to WADA:
The following was found in the HTMLfile: contentEditable=3Dtrue
But what I don't understand is why you ask the question. I have already attached the mail message containing the HTML message to this bug report. Please see above under Attachments.

The problem is known since several months now but still seems to be unassigned.

Question to the bug fixing team: Does this mean that users should stop using "Original HTML" option in the "Message Body As" menu entry under the "View" menu ? And instead use only "Simple HTML" or "Plain Text" ?

Many other users have the same problem and also the problem 525359 since a long time. I have already considered leaving Thunderbird to use KMail instead. I'm afraid many other users think the same.

I think we need a statement from the bugfixing team.
