User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2) Gecko/20100115 Firefox/3.6
Build Identifier:
When I delete a message (hit Shift-Del), sometimes message list disappear for a second or two, and then reappear. Very unpleasant effect - makes me (for a second) think that *all* messages deleted instead of a selected one.
I suspect that the message list is showing as empty for a period when Thunderbird is compacting folders. I have auto-compact feature turned on
(Tools | Options -> Advanced -> Network & Disk Space -> Compact folders when it will save over 100 Kb).
Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Turn on Auto-compact folders feature;
2. Try to delete (hit Shift-Del) a large message (over 100Kb);
3. See the message list blinks/flickers.
Actual Results:
The message list disappears for a second or two, then reappears.
Expected Results:
The message list should became shorter by one message without disappearing/reappearing the whole subjects list.
I cannot always reproduce the problem.

It is better to restart Thunderbird before trying to reproduce the problem. Otherwise files are cached and the blink is much shorter.

Forgot to say - I am using POP3 and all messages are stored locally.
This is *not* an IMAP issue. I was even offline when recorded the attached video.

Does it happen in -safe-mode ?

Yes, the -safe-mode option makes no difference.
Updated steps to reproduce:
1. Turn on Auto-compact folders feature ("Tools | Options -> Advanced -> Network & Disk Space -> Compact folders when it will save over 100 Kb" checkbox);
2. Create several large .eml files (1Mb or larger) and drag-drop them into Thunderbird; The larger .eml files, the longer blink will occur;
3. Restart Thunderbird;
4. Select one of the large messages and press Shift-Del.

Auto-compact => duplicate bug
note: 100k is much too small a value for normal usage
