Hi
I've being trying use 3.1 and the gmail, it start and fails .
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.make a new account
2.try a gmail account
3.create
Actual Results:
It tells me my password is ok
and next nothing happens
Expected Results:
it should just run though
ubuntu 9:10

This looks like bug 541287 to me (although I don't have GMail or a Linux system to try it on); if this is correct, please resolve as duplicate accordingly. Thanks!
That bugs closed , you've to download it not form the PPA,but off the main web site . that means there is problem ???

Yes, apparently there's a problem with the Ubuntu builds for Thunderbird. Follow the directions on that bug; if it solves your problem, then mark this bug as resolved. Otherwise, note what went wrong over here.
