Can you upgrade to 3.0.1 final and try it again? Also, does the message size refer to the size of the text, or did the message contain attachments of that size?
I was unable to reproduce this by creating a large message, although Thunderbird took a long time to paste text in at 100% of one CPU core.
Dear Nathan,
The message size refers to the text size not any images in them. And I will with latest release might it fix up the problem.

Alim, Do you still see this problem?
Perhaps a hang during auto save. But I don't really understand the steps in comment 0. For example are the addresses from ldap? Or from a regular address book? And how are you making the message size 2.5 MB? A large paste? Or an attachment?
Please clarify.
