Currently, Mozilla Linux x86-64 nightlies search /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins for plugins. At least on FC distros, the paths are: /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins: 32-bit /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins: 64-bit Unfortunately, ubuntu does just the opposite: /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins: 64-bit /usr/lib64 is a symlink to /usr/lib /usr/lib32/mozilla/plugins: 32-bit I don't think we can blindly search both/all locations because we'll find plugins twice on ubuntu, unless we add code to normalize/check identical symlinks. We also don't invalidate the cached plugin info when we switch between 32-bit and 64-bit builds, which is at least painful for me. I'll investigate some options.
What happened with this? We are still seeing this behavior in current Nightly on Mageia x86_64. Plugins in /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins are not found, they are only found when copied to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins. Can this be fixed, as this bug report is 18 months old?
I just ran into this bug. I moved from 32-bit machine to 64-bit Intel running RHEL 6.1 The standard distro supplied and company blessed Firefox-3 64-bit which is delivered through yum channels picks up the /usr/lib64/mozilla/..... correctly. I just tried the Firefox 7.0.1 (64-bit) .tgz file, it did not pickup the 64-bit plugins at all. I tried LD_LIBRARY_PATH but that didn't help either. So on my 64-bit RHEL 6.1, Firefox 3.6.23 (64-bit) picks up the plugins (lib64) but Firefox 7.0.1 does not Firefox 3 comes from yum repo, but I used Firefox FTP download to get to Firefox 7.0.1
This is also a problem when installing the official Flash player RPM from adobe.com. For instance, flash-plugin-11.2.202.616-release.x86_64.rpm installs libflashplayer.so under /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins/, which is ignored by Firefox 64 bits.
