Details

I need a "homepage" which ships with the browser. Implement <about:welcome>,
which redirects to a certain chrome: URL, possibly configurable (hidden, per
pref or .properties).

Thanks to Gagan's generic about redirector, it's relatively easy now for Beonex
to add that URL. Thus, my original reasons for opening this disappeared.

Still, I have to add the file to the build, so I have to touch at least 4 files.

Also, it is thinkable that a welcome page in Mozilla is useful, too. In fact,
zeroJ@null.net voted for this bug. zero, if you think that fixing this bug would
be a plus for Mozilla, please say so. this may convince Gagan and the xpfe owner
that this is a valueable addition to Mozilla.

bug 68086 is fixed, can this be done easily now ?

7 years from the initial filing of this bug, for Mozilla's sake, could this be done? We have a patch at hand (though it might need to be unbitrotted to work), only a review and checkin is needed!
I don't like the idea of continuing to add stuff to about: unless it is really clear-cut what the benefit is. about: is not x-about: we shouldn't be adding stuff for no good reason.

FWIW, the idea here was to remove pingback of the browser to the browser vendor (me in that case back then), for privacy for the user.
