User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; de; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100423 Ubuntu/10.04 (lucid) Firefox/3.6.3 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.9) Gecko/20100423 Thunderbird/3.0.4 Created a new POP account, using separate inbox. The account in the tree doesn't have a [+] sign to expand and see the inbox. After restarting TB, the name of the account disappeared (there is only a letter-icon in the tree, without text). The file folder, where the mails should be stored, is empty. I had these problem only with the accounts on one certain domain. It is a localized domain, using umlauts. These accounts where working fine with TB2. I always use this xn--... version, and TB _should_ actually not recognize anything, but at the end, it doesn't work. I also started in Safe-Mode, it is the same problem. Bin froh um jede Hilfe Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Add a new Profile 2. Add a new POP account using the wizard Actual Results: - The account in the tree doesn't have a [+] sign to expand it and see the inbox. - When expanding the "Get Mail" Button, no account is in the list. - After restarting TB, the name of the account disappeared (there is only a letter-icon in the tree, without text). - "Get Mail" doesn't seem to do anything. - When clicking from any folder back to this account (without name), the title of the current tab should actually display the account name. It still displays the name of the previous folder, but changes the icon. Expected Results: The account is visible in the tree, expandable, mails can be retrieved and read.
Sorry, left some of the German text I wrote in the forum and translated here. Can't see where I can fix the text. Anyway, it is not important.
(In reply to comment #1) > Sorry, left some of the German text I wrote in the forum and translated here. > Can't see where I can fix the text. Anyway, it is not important. There's no way to change existing comments, but if it was necessary or useful, you could just add a comment translating those paragraphs. Can you check Tools -> Error Console and paste any messages you see in there here?
Summary: Creating POP Account: Inbox not available, Account Name disappears → Creating POP account on IDN domain: Inbox not available, account name disappears
Version: unspecified → 3.0
> you could just add a comment translating those paragraphs. It's nothing relevant. Really just forgot to remove it. > Can you check Tools -> Error Console and paste any messages you see in there > here? I already uninstalled TB3 and went back to TB2, I need these email accounts. I setup an test Email account on the domain in question, if you want to use it to reproduce the bug. But I don't want to publish the login information here, it could get misused. Please contact me by email if you want it.
confirming on 3.1b2, : 1) we don't auto detect properly 2) when the configuration is edited and one creates the account nothing happens (no account is created, no error messages is spitted out, and nothing appears in the Error console).

And this looks like a dup of 235312. We could at least warn the user when creating the account.
When the user would be warned, what would be the contents of the warning? What I don't understand: the domain name I enter doesn't contain any umlauts. It worked fine with TB2, which most probably wasn't aware of IDN. Could it be that some library translates the puny-code to unicode? Is there something I can do against it to make my email account available?
If you are using IDN hostname, maybe you could help us in bug 80855. Could you write the server name and also how you encode it in punycode?
