This just happened to me for the second time (that I noticed) and I'm not positive about the correlation, but it matched up both times. I was trying to open a PDF attachment from an email and save and open, either by double-clicking the attachment icon or context menu, failed. Just nothing happened. I figured Tbird was having a fit so I went to shut it down and on re-start I was offered an update and then, after applying the update, downloading attachments worked. Both times I couldn't download, an update was pending. I get updates daily but I think both times the PDF attachment wouldn't open/save I'd dismissed the "restart" request at the end of the update download. testing latest trunk nightly builds on windows 7 with no extensions.
All : Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:2.0b2pre) Gecko/20100629 Shredder/3.2a1pre Nothing in the error console.
OS: Windows 7 → All

Was not able to reproduce with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.4) Gecko/20100608 Thunderbird/3.1 Suspect this might just affect trunk... I'll check with trunk when I am able.
trunk attachment handling with imap was broken until yesterday.
Asa, can you check if you are still able to reproduce with today's build?
Tested and this appears to be fixed. I can now download attachments when an update is pending. Resolve as WFM or Fixed?
