User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-GB; rv:1.9.2.4) Gecko/20100503 Firefox/3.6.4 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-GB; rv:1.9.2.4) Gecko/20100608 Lightning/1.0b2 Thunderbird/3.1 i upgraded to thunderbird3.1 and when i start thunderbird3.1 my window manager called "awesome" is realy unstable - it starts changing between the windows without touching the mouse or the keybord also the windows are flickering so my hole desktop starts to get unusable with awesome and thunderbird3.1. (thunderbird-bin:8519): libnotify-CRITICAL **: notify_notification_update: assertion summary != NULL && * summary != '\0” failed <- thats the error message i see wenn my window manager starts getting unusable. i downgraded my thunderbird back to 3.0.5 and everything is back to normal also with 3.1rc1 i didn't have that kind of problems for me it looks like the new notification daemon which comes with thunderbird3.1 has something to do with that. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. install window manager awesome version 3.4.5 under linux x86 2. install thunderbird3.1 under linux x86 3. start thunderbird3.1 you will see the flickering and random jumping between the windows starts. Actual Results: you will see the flickering and random jumping between the windows starts. the window manager awesome gets unusable Expected Results: thunderbird 3.1r1 or 3.0.5 don't influence the window manager at all
Makoto could lib notify be responsible for such an issue ?
Thunderbird 3.1 doesn't use libnotify directly even if Gecko 1.9.2 uses libnotify as system alert.
i just tried to use a complete new thunderbird configuration - no effect, problem still exists. problem started as my imap mailfolder was configured and thunderbird started polling the imap mailbox. i tried window manager fvwm with that one the error message: (thunderbird-bin:8519): libnotify-CRITICAL **: notify_notification_update: assertion summary != NULL && * summary != '\0” failed also appears but the window manager ignores it or at least didn't react on it. i also tested again with thunderbird 3.1rc1 and the problem exits also with that version. with thunderbird 3.0.5 it's all fine.
Version: unspecified → 3.1
There are two issues here: -Thunderbird sends empty notifications (in my case I get the popup but it is blank). -Awesome doesn't react too well when receiving that invalid notification. The awesome part seems fixed [1], but the notifications[2][3] still need fixing. 1-http://awesome.naquadah.org/bugs/index.php?do=details&task_id=785&project=1&pagenum=5&order=dueversion&sort=desc&order2=openedby&sort2=asc 2-http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.linux.gentoo.amd64/15847 3-https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=793592
