The inmail folder automatically compacts. This morning, I got a white empty window after the inmail folder was compacted. I could'nt do anything so I closed Thunderbird and restart.
And then, the e-mails since 03 sept 2009 have disappeared... the -emails that were in other personnal folders are still there : only the e-mails that were stocked in the inmail folder disappeared.
I don't know if the e-mails were moved the the trash before I closed Thunderbird (my trash is automatically empty when I close)
(i hope it's clear : english isn't my mother language...)
Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
I had this problem just today ; it never happened before (and I hope it won't anymore !!)

can you reproduce this using the currently shipping version 3.1?

It actually happened with the 3.1 version. It hasn't happen again since. Compacting the folder works correctly : no white screen, no freezing...
I wonder if I didn't interupt a process when I closed that white screen (Did I close before Thunderbird finished to compact the folder ?) but I didn't get any message to warn me that there were something currently running.

did you actually lose messages? if so, it could be bug 498814.
imap account or pop account?
Component: General → Folder and Message Lists
QA Contact: general → folders-message-lists
Version: 2.0 → 3.1
Please check if the folders, which contain your mail files are encrypted.
If so, then perhaps they disintegrated because this is a new common defect in Mozilla, rather than just in SeaMonkey 2.2, which I have discovered recently.

Depends on: destroys_encrypted
The bug of destruction 674742 may also act on other "triggers". Encryption is not the only one.
The inability to reproduce may indicate just that: encryption may indeed not have been the trigger.
Something else was. - Maybe it was the closing of the window prematurely, as reporter suggests.
I marked the bug as dependent on 674742.
