If today pane is hidden by pressing f11, today pane bottom down in the right corner or red cross within today pane. The today pane status changes to hidden and it can be made to reappear both by pressing the f11 and also by clicking the today pane botton in down in the right corner.
If you however are minimizing the today pane by clicking the long bar with the dots and two arrows the today pane can only be maximised by clicking on this bar again. Pressing on F11 and clicking on the today pane botton only makes the minimised state of the todaypane appear.

if state is minimised and you are pressing either of these bottoms the state should change to maximised as well.
The alternative solution would be to
