Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.7) Gecko/20100713 Firefox/3.6.7 ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729) Build Identifier: 3.1.1 One new message in a folder has been read. When I press the "n" key, I receive a prompt asking if I want to go to the next folder with an unread message in it. I click on 'Yes'. The tab closes, but the tab for the next message does not open. If the folder contains more than one message received that day, the "n" key wraps around within the folder instead of going to the next unread message in another folder. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Sort new messages to various folders. 2. Attempt to read through the new messages using the "n" hot-key or go to next unread message Actual Results: Works fine within a folder. Closes tab when going to next folder. Expected Results: Pressing "n" should cycle through all unread messages. It should navigate through all unread messages in all folders until there are no unread messages left. Then it should do nothing.
Have you tried safe mode? (see https://support.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode for more information)

Opened Thunderbird in safe mode. Marked several messages in several folders as unread. Navigation works correctly within folder. When next unread message is in a different folder, it prompts to go to folder. When I select 'Yes' the tab simply closes. I do not go to the next folder. I do not open the next unread message. I have also discovered that if I wait long enough for Thunderbird to mark a message as unread, it will not wrap around in the same folder. I have set Thunderbird option to mark message as read the moment I open the message.

When next unread message If it works in safe-mode - then one extension is responsible for the loss of functionality. Try to figure out which one and notify the extension author please. > in a different folder, it prompts to go to folder. When I select 'Yes' the tab > simply closes. I do not go to the next folder. I'm sorry! To the user who is not familiar with the underlying code, these all seem to be one bug, namely the "go to next unread message" function does not work. I was trying to show two instances where Thunderbird works correctly for comparison to where it works improperly. Pardon me for trying to be complete. The fact that the "go to next unread message" function will not find the next unread message if it is in another folder IS THE MAIN ISSUE OF THIS BUG.

There's something odd going on here, because I was not able to reproduce this initially, in many attempts. But then I quickly reproduce after restarting thunderbird. So something is missing in the steps. Please list more specific steps, listing *every* single action, starting from just having opened thunderbird. bugs to compare to https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/buglist.cgi?type1-0-0=allwords&query_format=advanced&short_desc=message&field0-0-0=short_desc&value1-0-0=next&short_desc_type=allwordssubstr&type0-0-0=nowords&value0-0-0=count%20counts%20get&field1-0-0=short_desc&resolution=---&product=MailNews%20Core&product=Thunderbird

Summary: neither go-next-unred message nor "n" hot-key goes to next folder properly → neither go-next-unread message nor "n" hot-key goes to next folder properly
First of all, I have the message pane turned off in the view menu. That way I can see more messages at a time. Thunderbird starts and downloads several dozen messages. It then sorts them into a variety of folders. I will select a folder that contains unread messages and double-click on one of the messages. That message will open in a new tab. When I finish reading the message, I press and release the "n" key and the next unread message opens in the same tab. Once I have read all the messages in that folder, I press and release the "n" key and a prompt appears that asks the question, "Advance to next unread message in [folder name]" with "Yes" and "No" buttons. When I click on "Yes" button {or press and release the "y" key} the tab closes and nothing else happens. What I would expect to happen is that Thunderbird would advance to [folder name] and open the next unread message in the same {or a new} tab.
Thank you for the bug link. The symptoms in bugs 395151 and 545218 seem to be very similar to this one. Again, since I am merely a user and not familiar with the underlying code, I do not know if it is the same issue.
(In reply to comment #7) > [...] The symptoms in bugs 395151 and 545218 [...] 395151 describes the actions after "Delete" (which are handled and controlled by other preferences). This problem is, I believe, the same as that described in 545218. DUP'ing to Bug 545218 -- which should maybe be DUP'd to Bug 514430 (I'm merely a user, too).
