The stop button (when pressed) will collapse/hide the quick filter bar.  I don't think this functionality makes sense as I'm not searching for anything and I don't see what the stop button has to do with the quick filter bar.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Thunderbird with at least one account defined.
2. Expose the quick filter bar.
3. Click "stop" (stop never seems to become inactive).

I am using all IMAP accounts, but I doubt this matters.  I don't have access to POP.
Actual Results:  
Upon clicking "stop" the quick filter bar collapses.

Expected Results:  
I expected whatever activity was occurring to stop.  I did not expect the quick filter bar to collapse or become unavailable in any way.

To me the stop button and the quick filter bar are orthogonal issues.

The workaround: don't use the stop button.  Hide the quick filter bar with the appropriate UI.

I confirm that it does this.

Furthermore, ref bug 587478 comment 4 about regressive change in stop button behavior: "I am certain I this mentioned in bugzilla or getsatifaction, that implementing escape to close the quick filter bar had usurped cancellation of message download. But I find no such bug report." ... Hopefully that bug will have follow up comments.
