This bug will be used to track your locale's progress toward localizing the various aspects of the Firefox Home project. We will file individual bugs for each piece of the project needing l10n. This will include bugs for the app, website, and other one-off parts for this unique iPhone-based process. All files and other attachments will be placed in the master Firefox Home tracking bug (bug 583421) that this individual locale tracking bug is blocking. Throughout the project, when we reference files or other pieces for review, be sure to check bug 583421. Because of the unique nature of this project, I have cc-ed the developer lead (Dan Walkowski) and the project manager (Ragavan Srinivasan) to this bug. Dan, Ragavan, and the l10n-drivers are available to help answer questions.

For testing the App on a device, I will need each locale to provide me with the GUID number from one Apple iPhone 3, 3GS or 4 OR an iPod touch. Apple has allocated us a very limited number of testing slots for our beta program so we cannot make a universal build for everyone. Please email me (sethb@mozilla.com) the GUID number and your exact device/model description so we can set you up in the Apple beta testing system.
I don't tink that anyone on our team has an iphone/ipod. I've an ipad and I can run iphone software on it, but I'm not sure it is ok for the gid ?
We are code freezing the *application* on Monday, August 16 at 16:00 PDT (UTC -7). Please have all of the application strings translated by that time. If you have any edits, please make them by that time and notify me.

What is the proper character encoding for emails in each locale? e.g. utf-8 is not the standard for emails, in Japan, ISO-2022-JP is best [1] [1] https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=585909#c5
(In reply to comment #6) In France we use ISO-8859-1 as default. It should be the same in Belgium, Switzerland and Canada. Well, we ship French Thunderbird with that encoding.
Actually it should probably be ISO-8859-15 these days. Not that it matters much for Firefox Home though, I don't think we use the "œ" ligature or the euro sign in it.
Seth, I can't update the new strings in Verbatim for Firefox Home as the CVS links don't appear. Can you help with this please?
(In reply to comment #9) > Seth, I can't update the new strings in Verbatim for Firefox Home as the CVS > links don't appear. Can you help with this please? Hi Cédric, which strings are you asking about?
Firefox Home is now available for testing. In order to make it accessible to as many people as possible who may not have an iPhone, we set up a remote machine with the iPhone emulator to test the app. We will not be using GUID numbers, as we had thought earlier. To log in to the remote machine, you will need a remote desktop viewer client, sometimes referred to as a VNC. If you do not have a VNC client, you can download realvnc or tightvnc (viewer only). Google for "Tightvnc Viewer". On Ubuntu, it should be located in Applications --> Internet --> Remove Desktop Viewer. Once you launch the VNC application, it should ask for a hostname. You will need to enter "l10n-fxhome.community.mozilla.com". This is where we have set up a VM with Mac OS and the iPhone emulator. You will be asked for a password, so you will need to email me so I can share with you the password. Instructions on testing are visible in an open document on the remote desktop. You will immediately notice that multiple users can access this *one* machine at the same time. Therefore, be sure to state what localization is testing at the time you are testing. Any questions, please email me. sethb@mozilla.com
I made some tests on the VM : I have to update SearchResultsController.xib.strings.po: narrowing the translation to fit in the search field. Please update your sources for fr. The sign-out button in the "Settings" window is too small for French. Can you enlarge it? I can't shorten the translation here (4 characters are missing). In the main windows (MainWindow.xib.strings.po) bookmarks is displayed as "Signets" though we translated it as "Marque-pages". Could you fix this too? In Firefox Home AdHoc page, nothing is localized, though we did in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=583267#c9 . I modified (USe Custom Server). The translation is below = Strings = /* this is a label for the version number of Firefox Home */ "Version" = "Version" /* this is a warning that this setting should only be used by advanced users */ "Caution: use at your own risk" = "Attention : à utiliser à vos risques et périls" /* this is a label for an on/off switch to enable the use of a custom Firefox Sync server */ "Use Custom Server" = "Serveur personnel" /* this is a label for a text field to enter the url of the custom server */ "Server URL" = "Adresse du serveur" Thanks
I'm sorry, but the "Sign Out" button cannot be made any larger, it already gets in the way of some locales translation for "Settings", in the middle of the bar. Can you think of some other shorter way to say sign-out/logout/disconnect/forget-everything? I will apply the "Use Custom Server string you have changed, thank you.
(In reply to comment #13) Hi Dan, >I'm sorry, but the "Sign Out" button cannot be made any larger, it already gets >in the way of some locales translation for "Settings", in the middle of the >bar. >Can you think of some other shorter way to say >sign-out/logout/disconnect/forget-everything? Well, disconnect/logout is really not the meaning here. I will ask fr community for a shorter string, don't know if we can find a shorter one. > >I will apply the "Use Custom Server string you have changed, thank you. Ok You forgot about: In the main windows (MainWindow.xib.strings.po) bookmarks is displayed as "Signets" though we translated it as "Marque-pages". Could you fix this too?
Cédric, I cannot change the string 'Signets' in the tab bar. It is a system icon (the open book) provided by Apple, and automatically localizes itself. Apparently 'Signets' is what Apple's localizers chose for 'Bookmarks'. Regarding the 'Sign Out' button, the full meaning and implications of what will happen when you tap the button do not need to be conveyed in the button label, the subsequent description/acknowledgement page does that. It just needs to convey the basic idea.

Apparently > 'Signets' is what Apple's localizers chose for 'Bookmarks'. OK, we'll live with it :-) > Regarding the 'Sign Out' button, the full meaning and implications of what will > happen when you tap the button do not need to be conveyed in the button label, > the subsequent description/acknowledgement page does that. It just needs to > convey the basic idea. Indeed. I've just asked the French speaking community some ideas to shorten this button. I would only need a deadline for the final translation, I might have missed this (well, I certainly did...).
The deadline is: as soon as possible :) re: signets, I could change the header at the top of the page to say Signets as well, so they would match, but it is entirely up to you. Thanks!
(In reply to comment #17) Well, this is a "cosmetic" stuff and kind of our French speaking community signature. No big deal as this is mentioned everywhere else in the UI. So, don't make any exception for this for French. And well this is only intended for Mac/iPhone users, it's not really important :p :D (Oops, I kind of forget that most of MoCo employees are Mac addicts. No, in fact I didn't forget :p ). I will try to give you the final translation for this damned button tomorrow evening, my timezone.
The community finally found a shorter word for Sign Out in LogoutController.xib.strings.po We go for "Résilier" which should fit in the button. Thanks
The change is in, thanks!
Marking this as fixed for right. I will reopen it in the future if/when we have new work to do on Firefox Home. Thanks!

Is it fixed in Firefox Home 1.1?
(In reply to comment #23) > Is it fixed in Firefox Home 1.1? What issue are you asking about being fixed? This bug? If so, I believe you can close it. But, if you are asking about any other issues, please enumerate them.
Dan, can we close this bug?
You will need to ask Stefan, I have not been working on this project for some time,
Dan, which Stefan? I didn't find any, nor in the CC list of this bug, neither in the blocking bug? :\
My apoologies, I meant Stefan Arentz <sarentz@mozilla.com>
Stefan, can we close this bug now?
