when receiving an email from an unknown sender, right clicking on the mail address and choosing to put it to the address book doesn't open a new card, so that entry of name and other details is possible.
instead the email address is just saved in the default address book - the whole record contains only the mail address.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.right click on unkonwn mail sender (white star) and add it to the address book

i still see this bug in thunderbird 16.0.1.

does nobody have this problem?

I'm going to say this is WFM, because right click (at least one windows) yields a list that includes "edit contact", where you can choose "edit details" which opens edit contact dialog.  Which is the designed workflow. (a similar workflow is available with left click)

The reporter is using Linux, and I see the problem using Thunderbird from Ubuntu with a new profile, or production profile.

Or my beta, earlybird, and daily from Mozilla, all with separate profiles.

Right or Left click on the address or star, the list only has:

Add to Address Book
Compose Message To
Copy Email Address
Copy Name and Email Address
<blank space in the list>
Create Filter From

Clicking Add to Address Book only turns the white star to a yellow star.

Aside: Clicking Add to Address Book in SeaMonkey 2.40 does open the contact properties window allowing the user to edit contact information.

Aside#2: The Contact Tabs extension opens a Properties tab when selecting an address and clicking Add to Address Book

Checked this in Thunderbird 45.3.0 candidate build1 on Windows 10, right or left clicking on the address or star, using Add to Address Book only changed the color of the star.

I think this bus should be reopened.
