Create a newsgroup for italian localizers. Assigning to andrea.
Please verify the name of the newsgroup and supply a short one
line description of the newsgroup. When this is done, reassign
the bug to rko@netscape.com.
does everyone agree that the pattern for future localization
newsgroups should be l10n followed by the two letter language
code? One alternative would be to spell out the name of the
language in english which I think would be bad for a newsgroup
whose contents is not english. Another alternative would be to
print the name in the native language which would be nice except
we should stick with ascii characters for the newsgroup name.
This would cause problems for french, cjk, etc.
Will be also available the companion mailing list. Sice it's available with the
others ngs, I'd like this may be an option for our contributors.
Since I'm the owner of this bug, it's supposed it's me the one whom set up the
ng ? If the answer is yes, well, I don't know how to. (Please give me some
directions.. and change the state to ASSIGNED)
Could I eventually have some degree of control over spammers? Could I help some
one to un/subscribe ? Could I view a list of people subscribed to the mailing
list ? Anythig else I should know ?
Thanks.

no. you don't need to set up the newsgroup. All you need to do is to
write down a short description of it which the sysadmin needs in order
to set up the newsgroup.
When you're done, assign the bug to rko@netscape.com and he will set up
a newsgroup/mailing list combination like the rest of our newsgroups.
Proposed newsgroup: netscape.public.mozilla.l10n.it
Description:
This is the newsgroup/mailing list were the translation of Mozilla related
projects are coordinated and discussed. The community of Italian translators has
this ng/ml and the "Mozilla does IT" ( http://sites.netscape.net/mozillit )
website. This is an Italian spoken newsgroup.
Questo e` il gruppo di discussione/mailing list dove viene discussa e coordinata
la traduzione di progetti legati a Mozilla. La comunita` dei traduttori italiani
oltre a questo gdd/ml possiede il sito web "Mozilla doesIT" (
http://sites.netscape.net/mozillit ). Questo gruppo di discussione e`
interamente in italiano.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please, before closing this bug, could anyone answer to the questions I posted
above ? (Except for the ones Dawn Endico answered :)
I've seen some ngroups are moderated, could -eventually- be an option for our
group? How ? What does it imply ?
Thanks.

I'm currently working on the "totally new newsgroup" hierarchy proposal, which
is bug 59398.
Currently, it includes mozilla.dev.l10n and mozilla.dev.i18n, but no
language-specific localisation newsgroups. Could someone explain to me why all
the l10n teams need their own newsgroups, rather than just using the main one,
(which doesn't seem all that busy at the moment)?

Not all the l10n teams; there are 52 languages registered now. Requested only,
please.

Let me put that another way: Can anyone explain why _any_ of the l10n groups
need their own newsgroup, rather than using the (low traffic) main one?

they need it so they can talk in italian. this is for a group of people
who already have a mailing list which is going away or has already gone
away. They asked for us to host their list instead.
risto, lets get this set up now and not wait for the ng change to get
this set up. it won't affect the mailing list name anyway.
andrea, yes, you can delete spam but I don't know of any way to
get access to, or control the list of users other than asking
me occasionally. If you're worried about making sure everyone gets
subscribed, I can help with that.

It will affect the mailing list names - they are changing to match the new
newsgroups :-) (Otherwise it'll be an unholy mess...) Anyway, the new names are
now just about locked down (max. 24 hours more) so you might as well do all this
stuff in one go.
Gerv
Don't know if may help, but we're not strictly interested in the hierarchy
proposed above. If this makes life easier you can propose a different name for
the ng.
Anyhow let me point -again- we would be quite interested in the combined mailing
list feature, if possible.
Well, let me know. (And let me know if I can help in any way)
Thanks to all.

how much of a hurry are you in for this new mailing list? If your old
list has gone away already then maybe we should create this list asap
under the old name. If not it might be better to wait till the new
heirarchy is set up. That will probably take several weeks though.

Fine. We can wait the change. (thanks)

Is it possible to create a 'nn' newsgroup for the Norwegian Nynorsk
localization too? (We currently have a mailing list.) Should I open a new bug
for this?
Comment 13•24 years ago

No, don't open a new one. I've added it to the proposal.

Gerv, another request: .de newsgroup - I hope it will also help German community...

I'm moving these newsgroup tickets to Marki's queue who will be the one doing
the newsgroup creations. It's probably better to start from there because major
restructuring happens in that end. When that's done we can create new mailing
lists and move users from old lists to new ones.

Moving to nobody until we have better picture of where we'll be going with
mozilla.org support by IC.

Since long time passed from this bug was filed, and in the meantime lot of
changes (improvements) has occourred to our private mailing list, in our group,
and the will to actually perform this ng renaming has been lost, I'm proposing
to CLOSE this bug.
Thanks to all, anyhow.
