I have an IMAP account set up using thunderbird. When deleting my mails I opt for the original IMAP way of two stage deletion thus only marking my mails to later on compact (or expunge) the folder. Therefore my mailbox is full of both deleted and not deleted items (the deleted marked as deleted) - TB3 gives you the option to hide the deleted by applying the view "not deleted" - just like outlook and other clients.

BUT: The view is only updated on restart or folder change. In other words, when deleting a mail it appears in the inbox (but marked) until you do a folder change. Surely this can't be the point of the view - so I hope it's a bug. If not it would be nice to be able to be able to choose the behavour of the folder view (on action/on folder change etc.)

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Recieve a mail
2.Delete the mail
3.When view "not deleted" is applied the mail should disappear from the inbox
Actual Results:  
Even though view "not deleted" is set, the message still appears in the inbox, but with the "marked for deletion" icon besides it. This view persists until folder change.

Expected Results:  
I expect the view to autoupdate - so when I delete a mail from my inbox the view acutally hides it. Not waiting for me to do a folder change or restart of TB.

I can't fifure out where this is located, how do you get to such a view ?

You have to customize your toolbar. There you can drag "mail view" into the mail toolbar. After this you select "not deleted".

That the access to this feature is restricted to a almost hidden function in a toolbar is in itself perhaps another bug:-)

Another aspect: When viewing a folder (say the inbox), you have the option to both sort and group by sort. Group by sort gives you the ability to view messages by "today" "yesterday" "last week" etc. When doing a folder change this view is not remembered by TB.

Could this be connected to the "not deleted" view don't update problem?

That's what I did, but not on the proper account :-(. Now that I see it I can't reproduce your issue with Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; rv:2.0b5pre) Gecko/20100819 Shredder/3.2a1pre .

Can you try to use thunderbird in -safe-mode (http://support.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode) so we can rule out both themes and extensions ?

I have had a somewhat similar issue recently:

   *  Deleting messages from one particular account (a Gmail IMAP account) causes the bottom message to disappear from the preview list in the right pane, but leave the message that was deleted visible.  It doesn't matter what kind of message was at the bottom (e.g. POP or IMAP, what account it was from, etc).  Clicking the message header that was supposed to be deleted shows the message content of that message, i.e. it is still showing the correct message body.  I am perfectly willing to admit that I have Gmail configured incorrectly because I had lots of problems just getting it to work in the first place.  But it is a very similar problem to the other issues and so am lumping it in with this one big problem.  (This is the issue that happens even when viewing in separate folders.)

I can't say that I have had the issue I appended to this bug report (deleting a message, it disappears from the message list, but the body still shows) for quite a while.
