This will really aesthetics of Firefox, especially considering how some people got overexcited when Windows 7's start orb got a similar transition. Bug 536540 and bug 574681 will need to land before this is added. Reproducible: Always

It does use gradients. But you could use animation of opening that menu.
The Firefox button is going to be removed in bug 863753.
