Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.8) Gecko/20100722 Firefox/3.6.8 ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729)
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.8) Gecko/20100802 Thunderbird/3.1.2

If you click on a collapsed thread, you see all the messages in the thread. If you click one of the message, then try to reply with "Ctrl-R", nothing happens.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Collapse a thread in the Inbox
2. Click one of the messages in the thread to open it.
3. Type "Ctrl-R".
Actual Results:
Nothing happens.

Expected Results:
A new reply compose window should open.

One has to click the message in the list pane before you can reply using a shortcut.
Anything in Tools->Error console when it happens ? Where does the message open ? in a new windows , in the message pane , in a tab ?

Does this happens in -safe-mode (http://support.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode) ?

There is nothing in the error console related to this.

The message opens in the message pane.

This problem occurs in safe-mode.

I did notice that after selecting one of the thread messages, it expands the thread, and puts a selection bar on the message being viewed. However, that selection bar is gray, indicating some other object has "focus".

One other note: If you click in the message pane while viewing the message, the keyboard shortcut starts working.
I believe this is a dup, and a focus issue - if you click in the message area, do keyboard shortcuts start working again.
David: Yes. Repeating myself from Comment #2: "If you click in the message pane while viewing the message, the keyboard shortcut starts working." can you link what you think is the dupe?
bug 581932 for one, but there's a whole bunch of them, I believe.
I would have to agree -- this bug is probably a dupe of that one (et. al.). Marking as dupe, thanks for the attention!
