Panorama should border the search button area (a designated column?) to prevent the active area from touching it.

I believe what I was referring to is the idea that search button should not fall behind a tab group (should a group be dragged over it) (tab/exit button hover over, where search hides under).

What I was thinking of is that that particular area where those buttons are (search, enter/exit), should have a vertical left-of-button border that doesn't let tab groups be dragged over them.

and by border, I probably mean a boundary zone that will prohibit a tab group from touching those buttons

In other words, that if you put the group over the search area it would get pushed away. I think that's a nice-to-have and we can safely push it until after Firefox 4, and we figure out what we want to do with the extension bar area.

Pushed, or just prohibited from going into that area. As a temporary fix though, it might be best to draw the search icon over the tab groups like the enter/exit already does. Right now, it draws behind any tab group over it.
