596313 - TB hangs if "Nstmp" folder deleted while Thunderbird downloads new email during compact operation

Thunderbird creates "nstmp" folder if Thunderbird tries to get new email messages while compacting.  If you try to delete the newly created "nstmp" folder, Thunderbird will lock up.

Compacting command needs a sub-program or sub-routine added that will put Thunderbird into "Offline" mode before compacting and then back into "Online" mode when done.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Compact folders
2. New email messages start to download during compacting operation
3.

So what is the issue in this bug?
That messages can come in while TB is compacting Inbox?
I vote for fixing that one! I think not only set offline mode but disable any interaction with TB as it is really dangerous. Also Outlook does that - has a modal dialog saying "Compacting".
