I have a new ASUS U45JC laptop with Optimus graphics and 310M graphic card. Firefox 4 Beta 6 starts up flickering really badly with Nvidia driver 258.96_notebook_winvista_win7_64bit_international_whql.exe on WIndows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling specifically Firefox 4 Beta 6, but it still occurs. This does not occur with 3.6.10. (Shouldn't be a profile issue, virtually no add-ons) Setting to Unconfirmed pending confirmation by other folks, as I'm not sure if this is a driver issue or a Firefox one.

I poked further and think that this seems to be a Nvidia issue. I checked the Nvidia control panel in 258.96 and forced it to use Intel HD Graphics and no flickering occurred (even in safe mode). However, when I forced it to use the Nvidia graphics processor, the flickering came back (in safe mode). Please move this bug into the correct component (doesn't really seem to be Firefox - General but I have no idea which is a better location).

This flickering issue does not occur with previous versions of the Nvidia driver, by the way.

Gary, does this happen with the latest trunk builds? We blocklisted D3D9 on Optimus computers.

(In reply to comment #4) > Gary, does this happen with the latest trunk builds? We blocklisted D3D9 on > Optimus computers. WFM on Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:2.0b7pre) Gecko/20100929 Firefox/4.0b7pre I suppose the blocklisting of D3D9 on Optimus computers is the fix for this bug, then. Guessing that it's bug 597320, and marking this one FIXED (since the fix is known).

I have a new Asus U35JC (basically the same as the U45JC in comment 1 but with a 13" instead of a 14" screen) and the issue still happens for me with the latest nightly. I'm also running the 258.96 Nvidia driver and I can see (via Nvidia's tray icon) that the Nvidia GPU is turned on when Firefox is loaded (though Firefox always shows the Intel GPU info in about:support) even though it's supposedly blacklisted. Here is the Graphics info shown in about:support page: Graphics Adapter Description Intel(R) HD Graphics Vendor ID 8086 Device ID 0046 Adapter RAM Unknown Adapter Drivers igdumd64 igd10umd64 igdumdx32 igd10umd32 Driver Version 8.15.10.2202 Driver Date 8-25-2010 Direct2D Enabled true DirectWrite Enabled true GPU Accelerated Windows 0/1 I've also tried a 20100929 to see if the blacklisting regressed but it didn't seem to make a difference. Should I reopen this bug? do you need any more info?
