Details
Bug 596813 added a single line update check user interface in the Firefox about window. I think toolkit -> app update should provide a simple widget that apps can add to what ever ui they choose to. This will also make it much easier to maintain.

Nowadays there are better ways to accomplish this so resolving -> wontfix
