Sunbird 1.0b1 works with CalDAV service from 
Chandler Hub Version 1.1-SNAPSHOT-r7367-2010-02-13T10:46 
— both without tickets (requiring authentication)
— and with tickets.

Where Sunbird 1.0b1 succeeds, Thunderbird 1.0b2 fails. 

Distinction
===========

Mozilla Calendar bug 536555 was limited to ticket-based access. 
Effects of this new bug seem to be broader. 



Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. add to Thunderbird 1.0b1 a CalDAV calendar with the following URL: 

https://hub.chandlerproject.org/dav/collection/3f869fa0-22b0-11df-a485-de331ed75a55

2. name the calendar etc., … click 'Done'


Actual Results:  
Warning: There has been an error reading data for calendar: Freeman Centre requests - without ticket.  However, this error is believed to be minor, so the program will attempt to continue. Error code: DAV_NOT_DAV. Description: The resource at https://hub.chandlerproject.org/dav/collection/3f869fa0-22b0-11df-a485-de331ed75a55 is either not a DAV collection or not available

Warning: There has been an error reading data for calendar: Freeman Centre requests - without ticket.  However, this error is believed to be minor, so the program will attempt to continue. Error code: READ_FAILED. Description: 



Expected Results:  
prompt to enter username and password

I see DAV_NOT_DAV in Mozilla bug 592468 
'One failing CalDAV calendar breaks them all' 
— again for Lightning 1.0b2 — but I'll keep this one separate in case it's specific to Chandler/Cosmo.

I have this in stderr (with Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:10.0.1) Gecko/20120216 Thunderbird/10.0.1 and lightning-1.2.3-tb+sm-linux.xpi ; BTW, it would be awesome if ESR version had Lightning available in about:addons):

(the Czech text optimistically says, that the error is not important so it will continue in working). The server is Zimbra 7.1.2_GA_3268 (build 20110804120319).

Please, file a new bug because this one is rather old and maybe related to the Chandler/Cosmo CalDAV server used.

Closing this bug as its quite old. I am not even sure Chandler is still up to date. Please reopen if this is still an issue.
