I play this video: http://paulrouget.com/2big/sintel/mobile.webm in a web page (Fennec/Android). With this code: <video controls preload="auto" onclick="this.play()" src="mobile.webm"></video> See: http://paulrouget.com/2big/sintel/test_mobile.html First, we see the throbber (loading the video). Then, the throbber disappears. Then, I click on the video, the video starts playing. But on top, we see a half transparent black veil, and the video is slow (~2 fps). We see (via the controls) that the video is still being downloaded. Once the video is 100% download, the veil disappears and the video is smooth (~10 fps). The veil should not be visible when the video is playing, and the video should be smooth even if it's being downloaded.
URL no longer exists, unable to test this. Please update the bug with a valid URL or close the bug if this is no longer an issue.
Updated.
Shorter version: http://paulrouget.com/2big/sintel/test_mobile2.html With the latest nightly: * no black veil anymore * the video is still slow while downloading, but way better than before By slow, now, I mean: "play smoothly for 1s, stuck for 1s, play smoothly for 1s, stuck for 1s, ...". One downloaded, play smoothly until the end. Also, if I activate GL, looks like it's working better.
Sorry, forget about GL. It was better because browser.tab.remote was false.
(with GL, crash)
We have various bugs about speeding up video playback on Fennec; we will collect links to the most important ones at https://wiki.mozilla.org/Fennec/Features/video Marking this bug as a duplicate for now.
