Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Copy text with TAB characters to clipboard. 2. Find a textarea. Focus the textarea. 3. Press SPACE once on keyboard (required). 4. Paste text from clipboard. Actual Results: TAB character is replaced with multiple SPACE characters. Expected Results: TAB characters are preserved. Happens in Firefox 3.6.10 and 4.0b6

This is working for me on 3.6.9 and 4.0b8pre (your test case seems working).

This will be fixed in 3.6.11 and 4.0b7.

That's comforting to know. Turns out I was already CCed to bug 596001. So now I've wasted time for all of us. But now, at least, any future search for "textarea tabs spaces" will reveal this bug. The bug "All tabs in textareas converted to spaces" could not be located by the same search phrase; somewhat non-fuzzy.
