While viewing Netflix movies in fullscreen mode, the fullscreen window closes immediately, after which the browser window becomes blank.

Repro Steps
1. Login into Netflix.com.
2. Click to watch an instant movie.
3. When the movie starts playing, click on the fullscreen button to switch the video to play in fullscreen mode.

result - the fullscreen window abruptly closes down and then the browser window renders blank.
The Silverlight QA team found this in their testing when they picked up a nightly build of the Mac installer for Firefox 4 Beta 8 from nightly.mozilla.org.
Priority: -- → P1
Note the bug occurs only when running Firefox in 32-bit mode. Does not repro in 64 bit mode.
I tried this on the nightly from 20101021 running in 64bit mode, with Silverlight Version: 4.0.50524.0, and the video does not load. It just says something like "thanks for installing, please restart your browser..." This sounds like bug 598406. I think that was happening on Win7 as well with one of the recent betas.

When I force the browser to run in 32bit mode, I get the problem described here. Sometimes I can't close the tab, which keeps playing audio, but no video. In one instance the browser crashed: http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/bp-9fa07030-95c2-402c-ac5e-089c32101021

I'll check for a recent regression.

Juan for crash reports, you should be able to resolve the Silverlight binaries via Microsoft public symbol servers. Can that be incorporated into your crash resolution processes?
OS: Mac OS X → Windows 7
Firefox in 32bit on Mac works till 9/26 (the last date with a separate installer for 32bit and 64bit). From then on there's a single installer (bundled) and Silverlight doesn't load in Netflix if you run Fx in 32bit mode. You just get a page saying "Thanks for installing. Once the installation is complete you must restart your browser"

On 10/01 you cannot launch Fx in 32 bit mode.

Then on 10/02 you are able to launch Fx in 32bit mode, and the plugin loads and you are able to play videos, but here's were I start observing the problem described in comment #0. The 64bit version remains behaving the same, not loading the plugin.

Sunil, I'll ask Josh to check if your suggestion in comment #4 would work.

Hi Juan,

We've been working with Josh and as per his suggestion, enabled Cocoa event model support to function well with an internal build. This bug is a found with the build that has Cocoa event model enabled.

I have an e-mail thread with Josh to see what are the next steps that needs to be taken here.

Regards,
Sunil
juanb: I think you confused sunil by comparing this Mac bug w/ a "similar" Win bug.

sunil: do you have a public symbol server for OS X?

Ah. I'm sorry, I forgot this was Mac. The Mac symbols are part of the developer package.

sorry, developer package? got a url/instructions? (some of us are barely part time in this stuff at this point)

Sunil, I'm not able to watch an instant movie on Netflix. Do you have
any other way to reproduce this bug?

Also, please answer timeless' questions from comment #9.
timeless:
Silverlight ships two installer packages for Windows and Mac. On the Mac in addition to the runtime, we also include the dSym files. You can find the installer package for Mac at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=188040.

Steven:
You're unable to watch a movie as you don't have a Netflix account or you're seeing an issue when Watching an instant Movie?

I have a Netflix account, but I have a very slow ADSL connection. So
it'll be hard to isolate this bug from other problems due to my slow
connection.

Also it'd make life easier for everyone if we had a single page to
test with, that we could be assured wouldn't change while we're
testing with it.
This is another page that reproduces the issue. http://www.bing.com/videos/watch/video/747-buzzes-golden-gate-bridge/1jrdk0io1

Playing the default video when the site loads and switching to fullscreen while the video starts playing should do the trick.

As per Comment#6 though you'll only be able to repro with newer builds of Silverlight that I am working with Josh to share out.

The regression range includes all of the patches that turned on hardware acceleration on Mac OS X. Seems like the likely culprit here.

I can't reproduce this - Netflix full screen mode works just fine for me.
Maybe the bug summary needs rephrasing. Fullscreen does not close abruptly for me, but it does go blank.

This does not work for me on the candidate builds for 4b8, using 10.6.5, and Silverlight 4.0.50524.0. If you go into full-screen mode the video goes blank, and when you exit the page is still blank. Reloading the page seems to work, but at least once I saw this message after reloading: http://grab.by/7VcF

See video: http://screencast.com/t/jE16b2ZQZ
I can reproduce this bug (with crash) easily by running the latest Minefield in 32-bit mode ("arch -i386 /Applications/Minefield.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin").
