1. open a newsgroup
2. View -> Threads -> Unread
3. expand all threads
4. find a thread with two messages
5. read one of them
6. select another folder/node and then go back to the newsgroup
7. find the thread again, it now has a single message, but is showing the plus expander icon

Reproducible: Always

About "2. View -> Threads -> Unread"

I'm using the localized German version.

Is that

• "Ansicht" -> "Themen" - "Nur ungelesene Beiträge"
  OR
• "Ansicht" -> "Themen" - "Mit ungelesenen Beiträgen"

OK, I tried out with "Nur ungelesene Beiträge".

I'm not really using news any more (I had a paid subscription which I let expire at some point), but for this test, I just used news.gmane.org.

Yes, I could reproduce the behaviour as described.

With bug 1427546 fixed, this should work satisfactorily.
