Legal has requested that we take down the 5 years of firefox and Download Day forms which are part of spreadfirefox.com and delete the data. This bug will be just about taking down the forms and giving instructions to IT for deleting the data.
Separate bug will be filed against IT for the delete.

Would it be possible to make this bug public? Removing the forms could involve changes to the site's design and it would be good to allow people to comment about the best way to do this. I'll also email the engagement team to make sure they are aware of this so they can comment as needed.

The site needs to be archived on www-archive. Structure is a PHP site independent from SpreadFirefox.
Code, for the record, is here: http://svn.mozilla.org/projects/spreadfirefox.com/trunk/worldrecord/
Summary: Take down the forms on the Download Day and 5 years of Firefox sites → Archive the Download Day site

A stub blog post has been created and posted at:

Given that this is a data and javascript-focused site, this will not archive well; not without a lot of manual work to make everything resolve properly. This site will be best represented by retiring the site and dicussing the former site's focus in detail via the link in Comment #4. This will require that someone provides the text for that blog post.
Mary, I will need your approval to move forward with retiring the site instead of archiving the site. Let me know if you have any comments / questions.

Could we also leave it where it is and just remove the form(s) that are collecting data. Maybe just update the following page to remove that form?
http://www.spreadfirefox.com/en-US/worldrecord/certificate_form
Since this is part of an active site, I think it would be fine as is without the data collection, right?

If the site is no longer necessary, then we should remove it because of security concerns. This is a site that was not implemented on a code framework, therefore we don't have an available upgrade path or warning mechanism to help us maintain the site codebase.

Guys - please turn it off and redirect to the blog post for now.
Hi guys: Agree - let's redirect to here: http://blog.mozilla.com/blog/2008/07/02/were-official/
If possible a banner across the top saying the site was retired would be great, but not a blocker.
Thanks!

Filed Bug 618834 to redirect the download day website.
Unfortunately, we won't be able to add a banner to that blog post. But you can edit the post and add text at the top of the blog post stating that the site is no longer available and the date upon which it was retired.
