User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:2.0b8pre) Gecko/20101105 Firefox/4.0b8pre Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:2.0b8pre) Gecko/20101105 Firefox/4.0b8pre Suppose you have two tab groups - using the neat new feature in the trunk builds. In group 2 you have one or more pages using HTTP basic authentication. Preferences are set to "Show my windows and tabs from last time" on startup. Select a tab in group 1 and exit the browser. Now when you re-start, tab group 1 will have focus but the tab(s) from group 2 that require authentication will appear and popup their authentication dialogue(s). So those tabs have in effect temporarily migrated from group 2 to group 1. I say temporarily because if you go to the panorama view and select any tab group then the tabs return to group 2. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Create two tab groups, say g1 and g2. In g1 have a tab with say google. In g2 have a tab that requires HTTP basic authentication (I don't have any examples outside of our company intranet). 2. Select the tab in g1. 3. Set the preference to "Show my windows and tabs from last time" on startup. 4. Exit the browser. 5. Re-start the browser. 3. Actual Results: In step 5 you will be in tab group 1 but the tab from g2 that requires authentication will appear and put up its authentication dialogue. Expected Results: I think either of these would be more acceptable (1) Switch automatically to tab group 2 when the authentication dialogue is shown. (2) Only show the authentication dialogue(s) when the user selects tab group 2. I think option 2 above is best because in option 1 (or indeed of this is WONTFIXED) if there are a lot of tabs requiring authentication the user will be bombarded with dialogues demanding authentication for tabs he/she possibly doesn't want to visit in a particular session.
Guess this is a duplicate of #589261
The behaviour has improved in recent builds. The browser now switches to the appropriate tab group which I find much more acceptable. Better still would be if the authentication prompt(s) didn't appear until I chose to switch to the relevant group.
Using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:2.0b9) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0b9 the issue has been fixed. Indeed, the groups are switched at restart, but this behavior is expected, as seen in Bug 589261.
