User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.12) Gecko/20101026 Firefox/3.6.12 ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729) Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.12) Gecko/20101027 Lightning/1.0b2 Thunderbird/3.1.6 Currently, Thunderbird searches folders whenever a quick search closes, then reselects (or at least recenters) the previously selected message once the 'Searching folder...' process completes. In the meantime, however, the user has plenty of time to select a different message at the top of the folder (such as a new message whose arrival was masked by the filter), only to have the first selection "restored" a few seconds later. For example, when a new-mail notify comes in, I task switch to Thunderbird and close the search (which I had finished with long before and forgotten to close), start reading the new message (marking it read), and suddenly a different message opens instead. This is especially disorienting when the previously-selected message was far down the list. It would be much better if Thunderbird checked whether the user had made a new selection before re-applying the remembered one. NOTE: I *like* that the selected message persists when closing the quick search, because I often use it to find related emails when I can't think of good search terms for a message but can remember something that happened around the same time. The feature just shouldn't override selections which the user makes later. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Use a quick search to select an old message in a large folder 2. Close the quick search 3. Quickly select the first message in the folder Actual Results: The selection changes back to the old message once the folder finishes opening Expected Results: The new selection should take precedence and Thunderbird should forget the old one
