Close button on addons bar does not stick to the left side of the bar, it moves to the right as soon as you get icons in the bar

The new addon bar probably lacks a flexible space element on its side, when you install an addon like Firebug which adds an icon there, that icon is located at the far left of the bar pushing the close button to the center. This icon should probably be located on the far right of the bar instead.

Might be a sort-of-dupe of bug 618374. Pascal, does the bug go away if you do "restore default set" in View|Toolbars|Customize?

Yes, resetting to the default values does fix this bug.

Ok, I think it's effectively a dupe of bug 618374 then.
