User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:2.0b8) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0b8
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:2.0b8) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0b8

I noticed that after several hours of casual browsing, closing tabs, opening new ones, loading flash sites (having them crash) and then more browsing that FF starts eating away at my RAM. I have 4GB and the system comes to a crawl as FF takes up even 1gb.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start browsing
2. Browse some more
3. Make a sandwich
4. After hours of browsing, look at the Activity Monitor
Actual Results:
FF was using 1.15 GB of RAM ACTIVELY. Which seemed like a lot more than was necessary for about 10 tabs.

Expected Results:
Firefox should keep memory to about 300mb.
I have experienced this in Beta 7 on Windows (have not upgraded to Beta 8 yet).

Following bug 598466 would probably be a good idea in any case.
This bug report is not very useful without steps to reproduce and if you test without addons. Do you have any addons installed and have you tested it without ?

bug 598466 is about more used memory not about a memory leak.
