From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/4.7 [en] (Win98; I) BuildID: 2000120704 Logitech cordless keyboard's "iTouch" configuration allows launch of browser to a specified URL with one hotkey. To configure the hotkey, you bring up the desired URL and press ctrl-hotkey. This works in Netscape and IE, but when tried with Mozilla, the keyboard configuration message says it can't acquire the URL from the browser. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open Mozilla, open desired URL. 2. As per instructions in the Logitech iTouch wireless keyboard configuration, press ctrl-hotkey to make the open webpage the target of the hotkey's action. Actual Results: Configuration window doesn't recognize Mozilla as being a browser. It doesn't accept URL info from Mozilla. Expected Results: The URL currently being viewed in Mozilla should have been accepted by the keyboard configuration software as the target for the hotkey's action. If a Netscape window is open while trying to use the Mozilla window to configure the hotkeys, the keyboard configuration software will ignore Mozilla (the active window) and behave as though the only browser open is Netscape (the inactive window). I list this as minor because the browser function isn't impared in any way, just the hotkeys.

Isn't this a problem with logitech, not with us?

Seeing this on NT4, using Build 2001011604 and iTouch 1.52 Also, it's not specific to the Cordless keyboards, it occurrs with any iTouch keyboard. Works in 4.x Appears the Logitech iTouch software can't read the contents of the Location field. Good point though, our problem or theirs?

Probably our problem, in the sense that they'll be looking for a native widget. If they want to support Mozilla browsers, we'll need to give them some way to get this info. However, it could be argued that there's a security risk here - allowing other code to see where you are going in your browser. This way, anything you install could be a trojan web tracker... Gerv

This isn't a big deal securitywise. Most browsers have had similar features (such as bug 31343), and if a program on your computer really wants to do stuff to your browser, it can without the help of the people who wrote the browser.

This will probably involve talking to the Logitech people and pointing them at the URLWidget (a native text control with the current url as its value) we create on Windows for Media Metrix.

short workaround to solve this problem: use the iTouch-configuration program and enter for each key - function is "start program" - program to start is "C:\PROGRA~1\mozilla.org\Mozilla\Mozilla.exe http://www.url.com" These solution starts the mozilla browser with the given url.

This also applies to pushing the hotkeys if you manually set them in the iTouch configuration. For example I press my "home" key, the text appears on my monitor indicating that the key was recognized by my computer, but Mozilla does nothing.

the problem still exists with the actual release Mozilla 1.3/20030312 and the actual version itouch 2.15
