After setting master password and restart browser with app tab fixed with password and user remembers, windows for master password appear twice.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Fixed app tab Gmail or other website with user and password remembering.
2.Setting master password in Options->Security
3.Restart Minefield
4.Entering master password
Actual Results:  
Master password windows appear twice. After entering password in first windows, this disappear. After entering master password in second windows browser running correctly.

Expected Results:  
Master password windows appear once.

Please see in attachment and try with Gmail, Facebook, Narro, Bugzilla and Mozillazine.

Mike, personally, I don't identified, for moment, duplicate bugs for this.

I tried it with Gmail and Bugzilla as tabs and only got one alert.

Is a specific site is doing this or any page with a password? Does it show two alerts when only one such tab is open?

All app fixed sites is with user and password remembered. All app sites start automatically when Minefield is opened (remembered opened tab). I testing immediately your suggestion with one tab opened.

Hmmm, I testing in NEW FRESH profile (no addons, no Sync etc.) this situation. In both situation, with one app tab, and four app tab, with user and password remembering, master password window appear once.

So, this bug is probably generated of:
 - Sync setting - perhaps synchronization is ongoing when Minefield start
 - add-ons incompatibility - perhaps: Mozilla QA Companion, Read It Later, Test Pilot, WOT (for this add-ons password and user is required)
- other my installed software incompatibility
- other cause

Also double windows master password do not show always. Will be difficult to recreate the initial conditions of this bug. We waiting for other suggestions. My add-ons list is below:

given that this is likely based on one of those extensions, and difficult to reproduce, this is a softblocker.

Raul, can you bisect your list of extensions to narrow it down? Disable them in chunks to determine which addon(s) may be causing this. Until we can reproduce this reliably, we can't confirm this bug.

This is almost certainly a problem caused by an addon. The built-in password manager avoids triggering this for HTTP auth and form logins, but there's not really anything we can do to prevent addons from triggering a 2nd master password prompt.

App tabs are also not likely involved here.

Confirmations: 

- this bug appear for my ONLY when computer is restarted or in first used after shut down. This bug not appear on log off/log on.
 - this bug is 100% generated by addons incompatibility

In next days will say what addon/addons culprit of this bug.

Also, I don't understanding why this bug appear only after first start computer. Any idea?

I strongly suspect your double passwords are occuring from one of the above addons, likely in the intersection of your two lists.

Diffing both sets, I get:

Hmm. I disabling alike addons. I restart my computer 5 times in this test. In 3 times double windows for master password appear. In 2 times appear one window.
If in my fixed app tab, users and password is remembering and don't log off in this websites (e.g. gmail, facebook), when firefox start should window master password not appear at all.

Is very difficult to reproduce this bug.

Perhaps another addons generated this bug:
-Mozilla QA Companion
-Read It Later
-WOT
-Sync

BECAUSE only this addons need user and password.

However, it is possible another my instaled software to influence this bug: Esest Smart Security, Wakoopa, Malwarebytes Antimalware ??

3. Restart computer
4. NO windows master password appear

In both situation addons activated/deactivated is bellow.

So, perhaps addon Read it later generated this bug because try bookmarks syncronization?

Another question: this bug generated a security problem for users??

This bug seems very difficult to reproduce, and is confirmed to only affect users with a specific add-on installed (Read It Later, from the comments).

Why are we blocking the release on this? Requesting re-triage.


WRT to a fix: I'm not familiar with this code. Why can't we detect if the prompt is open already and not show it if so?

This has already been widely discussed.  It is not that simple to detect the prompt being already open.

There is of course a way to fix it, but definitely not in Fx4 scope.

Can get this to occur consistently where the Master Password Store has credentials for Proxy.

The "check for updates" call will initiate a Master Password Unlock prompt and, if requesting a URL at the same time this call is initiated, two prompts will appear for unlocking Master Password.

FYI, on Mac OS X with Firefox v46.0.1 this bug was still being triggered by the "Pocket" extension. Disabling Pocket eliminated the second master password prompt.
