Details
Steps to reproduce:
1. Open cookie manager (tools, privacy and security, cookie manager, view
stored cookies).
2. Select a cookie.
3. Click in one of the textboxes at the bottom.
Result: no insertion point shows up, but if you press left/right you can scroll
within the field. (watch out for bug 25930 when scrolling.)
Expected result: insertion point should be visible.

HJ, I filed this bug so that bug 62424 could track a single issue (the
textboxes cookie manager being too small).

It's invisible because nothing can be inserted -- these fields are read-only.
The only reason you would want to know about this no-insertion point is so you
know how far to go to the left or right before the field will start to scroll.
But maybe that's the probolem. In a read-only textfield, scrolling should
always occur whenever you hit the left or right arrow keys.
I would suggest changing the summary line from:
"invisible insertion point in cookie manager textbox"
to
"read-only textfields should always scroll whenever arrow keys are pressed"

Yup, Morse is right. Read-only text fields are akin to Web pages in this respect
-- you don't have to press the down key dozens of times in a Web page to scroll
it, just because the invisible caret starts at the top and takes time to get to
the bottom. The page just starts scrolling immediately. So it should be for
read-only text fields.

If there's not going to be an insertion point, there needs to be
- some other indication of which textbox has focus on webpages and in dialogs.
- some way to copy text out of the textbox using the keyboard (ctrl+a currently
doesn't work in the textboxes in the cookie manager dialog).

1. Yes it is true that there is no way to show the focus. That needs to be
addressed.
2. It's also true that ctrl-A doesn't work. That needs to be fixed. But you
can do a copy using shift + arrow-key.

Shift + arrow-key is very counterintuitive when you can't see the insertion
point.

Actually, shift+arrow key wouldn't really work. If you can't control where the
insertion point starts, shift+arrow would only allow you to make selections
starting at the beginning of the text field.

Just put the cursor in there, please... ;) It's very obvious what's happening
then, and you can use all the normal navigation methods.
In other words, the only difference between a read-only and a read-write text
box is a) color and b) you can't actually change the contents.
Windows and OS/2 do this for read-only text boxes. Can anyone chime in for other
platforms?
