I understand that it's always hard to make the number of keyboard shortcuts suffice, but this would really appreciated. 

The main reason for me wanting this is that I use different screen sizes (with the same bookmarks). The bookmarks toolbar makes them easy to get to on the large screen but on my laptop I don't want the toolbar to be visible in between the clicks to save space.

This would be awesome. I hope you will consider it!

Yes, a keyboard shortcut for toggling the visibility of the Bookmarks Toolbar
would be great.

Especially with all the constant effort that is being done in Firefox from version 4 and on
to make the UI minimal, not-getting-in-the-user's-way and at the same time as convenient as possible.

The Ctrl + / shortcut to show/hide the Add-on Bar 
as well as the Alt key shortcut to show/hide the Menu Bar
have both been most useful for me (I use them all the time)
and I'd like to use one for the Bookmarks Toolbar, too.

Google Chrome uses Ctrl/Shift + B, but in Firefox it is currently assigned to the library. It would be very nice to have a shortcut with the new shortcuts manager.

Actually (at least in Linux) Ctrl+Shift+B is free in Firefox.
